Characterized by an elliptical shape, the old town is bordered by a large estramurale built in 1876, breaking down the massive walls and moat of the medieval period. Important elements of the complex are the three main entrances, or "Porta Grande", "Porta Barsento" and "Porta Nuova" and the center of the village where "Piazza Plebiscite" is the Palazzo del Principe Romanazzi Carducci, also known as the "Palace of Bailiff, "the seat and the mother church of S. Peter the Apostle erected at the dawn of the Middle Ages and rebuilt in 1400. Other important churches are the center of the baroque church of St. Mary the Greek, in which the relics of St. Stephen the Martyr, the Church of Sts Mary of Mount Caramel, the church of S. Dominic (the latter two are located just outside the village) and not far from the historical center you can admire the modern church of S. Filippo Neri built in 1968.
