Painting exhibition that explored, through two protagonists, the woman and nature, the universe apparently unchanging of rural society, as in the south as in the north of our country.

Emanuela Angiuli has chosen for this fascinating exhibition to open a focus on "Women's World in the painting of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries", in Italy. Here stands the description deeply emotional and evocative of the Italian province of the petty bourgeoisie and peasantry. Along the four thematic sections: feelings, the work of the day, lawns and gardens, secrets, moves, in a thin atmosphere, the other half of the world, for the first time really aware of its power, the end of a millenary state of subjugation.

In the halls of the De Nittis Art Gallery at Palazzo Marra, Barletta, the artists tell, often with sensitivity as confidential in a palimpsest a figurative, their most personal and intimate moments: adolescence, work, the rituals of feelings. While new intellectual movements, political and cultural changes that invest Italy between 1800 and 1900 lead women, nobles and commoners, to assume leading roles, painting images eloquent record of the history and conditions under which expresses the world of province.

Starting from the women, the observation inevitably invades various fields of historical interest, but also literary and social demo-ethno-anthropological.

The painting becomes the register of knowledge of local customs and traditions through a variety of languages that interferes with daily living, provide the quality of a complex and varied cultural territory.

Looking at these paintings, a reality show that after the unification of Italy, is strongly linked to rural societies and traditions of the province that are echoed in the realistic fiction of Giovanni Verga and Luigi Capuana discoverer of the experimental novel of Zola and of naturalism, the realism of Matilde Serao, Grazia Deledda, Mario Pratesi, Renato Fucini.
