Sensual fragrances of the Orient come to the city of Barletta.
At Marra Palace, seat of the Pinacoteca de Nittis, from 4March to 10July, hundreds of carefully selected works tell the Orient in the nineteenth century Italian painting in-depth exhibition ever staged on the subject. "Incantations and discoveries. The Orient in the nineteenth century Italian painting, " is sponsored by the City of Barletta and the Region of Puglia and is curated by Emanuela Angiuli and Anna Villari.
The echoes of Napoleon's expedition to Egypt, the reports of explorers and wheeler-the chronicles of forbidden pleasures, concubines, harems, Hammam had done the rest.
The charm of Orientalism cross in the ninetheen century Italy from Venice through Tuscany, Lazio and southern Italy, persuading the painters of that period.
In Puglia, traditional bridgehead to the East, Orientalism found the memory of distant memories. Beyond the Adriatic, Landscapes, cities and meetings, Dreaming the odalisques are the chapters of the exhibition.
